Brendan Greaney has been a Senior Lecturer in Critical Care Nursing at Coventry University since 2001 and is Course Director to the BSc General Nursing International Programme as well as teaching on a number of undergraduate nursing modules.
His main research interest is disability, but specifically dyslexia. He currently holds a role as Learning Disability Support Tutor within the School of Health which involves supporting and advising nursing students with disabilities
He carried out a research study in 2004 entitled ‘The impact of Dyslexia on Nursing Students in Clinical Placement’ as part of his MA in Education. This has been presented at a number of research conferences including the International Conference of the British Dyslexia Association in 2011 and the Nursing and Healthcare Research Conference at Trinity College Dublin in 2008. He is currently undertaking a study as part of his PhD at the University of Birmingham entitled ‘Dyslexia and Nursing – a case study’ a longitudinal study exploring the experiences of nursing students with dyslexia pre and post registration as well as exploring the perceptions of nurse tutors, mentors and preceptors about dyslexia in nursing.
