Unity is a cross-platform game engine that became popular due to it’s ‘free to use’ model for non-commercial developers. The software is also used heavily in AAA game studios. Unity supports C# and Javascript for programming, and has lot’s of celebrated features including; Mechanim character based animation system, physically-based shading and real-time global illumination for more realistic visuals, the ability to produce both 2D and 3D resources, as well as advanced physics engines for both 2D and 3D.
